Reading newspaper cutting on establishment of nurseries in workplace really attracted me to share opinion regarding this issue. This article is about interviews between Berita Harian reporter and Dynas (artist) on the need of nurseries/ day care centre to priotize the safety of children while they at nursery.

Everybody talking about the safety of the children, the need of the nursery to be more aware when they taking care of the children, but do they think about the person who do the job; the caregiver, the guidelines that the owner of the nurseries and caregiver should know and comply, the basic knowledge and practices of childcare.

I think we should start thinking what we could do to make nursery a safe place. We should come to the root of the problem, where we should asked the owner of the nurseries themselves. Do they have or know the basic knowledge and skills about childcare,  do they comply the guidelines set by Jabatan Kebajikan Masyarakat, do they have permit and registered to run the business, do they attend ‘Kursus Asas Asuhan Kanak-kanak’.

Do they know the basic knowledge and skills about childcare,
The owner and caregiver should know the basic knowledge and practices about childcare. They should well-verse the developmental stages of children under 4 years and  below. The caregiver should have patience and love the infants while they at the nurseries. Can the caregiver treat the children like their own children???

Do they have permit and registered to run the business
According to  JKM, the owner of nurseries should register and have permit to run the nurseries business

Do they attend ‘Kursus Asas Asuhan Kanak-kanak‘,
The nurseries owner can attand Kursus Asas Asuhan Kanak-kanak organized by Persatuan Pengasuh Berdaftar Malaysia or Majlis Kebajikan dan Pembanguna Masyarakat Kebangsaan Malaysia. The module including the activities for children under 4 years old, developmental stages for children, planning and nurseries environment, health and children nutrition, etc

How much expensive you’ve paid for the nursery to take care of your children, if the owner and the caregiver are neglect about the basic knowledge about childcare, I think you should be cautious the safety of your children.

Note : Not everybody lucky and fortunate enough to have a maid and monitor by immediate family. Akhir sekali, kita hendaklah tawakkal dan berdoa semoga anak-anak kita sentiasa selamat dan dijauhi dari sebarang kecelakaan kerana malang tidak berbau. Amin
